چکیده

Continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) performance depends primarily on early-age cracks that result from changes in temperature and drying shrinkage. This report presents the findings of a study of the early-age behavior of CRCP in response to temperature change using a three-dimensional finite element model. The nonlinear effects of the bond slip between concrete and steel and between concrete and base have been studied. The modeling for the curling effect and the viscoelastic material characteristics have also been considered. The test results from the two-dimensional and three-dimensional models have been compared to verify the possibility of using a twodimensional model. From this project it has been found that the crack width and the concrete stress are dependent in the transverse steel arrangement near the edge (longitudinal joint), but almost independent in the interior of the slab. The tensile stress occurring at the top of the edge on the transverse steel location can be higher than that occurring at the top of the slab center. This observation represents the possibility of forming a transverse crack from the edge on the transverse steel location. The two-dimensional model with the plane stress element gives results very close to those of the three-dimensional model except near the edge.

Evaluation of Ultimate Torsional Strength of Reinforcement Concrete Beams Using Finite Element Analysis and Artificial Neural Network

Due to lack of theory of elasticity, estimation of ultimate torsional strength of reinforcement concrete beams is a difficult task. Therefore, the finite element methods could be applied for determination of strength of concrete beams. Furthermore, for complicated, highly nonlinear and ambiguous status, artificial neural networks are appropriate tools for prediction of behavior of such states. ...

Non Linear Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced and Unreinforeced Pavements

In this research a comprehensive finite element program was developed in order to carry out an elasto perfectly plastic analysis of geogrid reinforcement of a model pavement. Qualitative agreement is seen between the numerical results and experiment. The results indicate the influence of geogrid in reduction of vertical deformation of pavements. It is also seen that for strong subgrade, the opt...

Behavior of FRP-Confined Reactive Powder Concrete Columns under Eccentric Loading

Fiber reinforced Polymers (FRP) have widely used for the purposes of enhances strength and ductility of concrete columns. Proper design of such hybrid columns, however, requires a better recognition of the behavior of concrete columns confined with FRP. In this paper, the influence of FRP thickness, concrete compressive strength, and column size on the performance of eccentrically loaded reacti...

Flexural Testing of High Strength Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with CFRP Sheets

The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of externally bonded CFRP sheets to increase the flexural strength of reinforced high strength concrete (HSC) beams. Four-point bending flexural tests to complete failure on six concrete beams, strengthened with different layouts of CFRP sheets were conducted. Three-dimensional nonlinear finite element (FE) models were adopted by A...

Investigation of Shear Stud Performance in Flat Plate Using Finite Element Analysis

Three types of shear stud arrangement, respectively featuring an orthogonal, a radial and a critical perimeter pattern, were evaluated numerically. A numerical investigation was conducted using the finite element software ABAQUS to evaluate their ability to resist punching shear in a flat plate. The finite element analysis here is an application of the nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete ...
